Miljoenen levens in Turkije veranderden toen op 6 februari 2023 het land werd opgeschrikt door verwoestende aardbevingen. Ruim 700.000 huizen zijn onbewoonbaar geworden en water- en sanitaire systemen zijn ernstig beschadigd. De lokale samenleving, de economie en lokale overheden zijn verwoest en ontwricht.

Op 26 oktober (2023) organiseerde NLWorks in samenwerking met VNO-NCW MKB-Nederland, Ministerie van Buitenlandse Zaken, de Nederlandse ambassade in Ankara en RVO een informatiebijeenkomst voor Nederlandse bedrijven om hen inzicht te geven in de hulp die nodig is in het getroffen gebied Hatay.
Tijdens deze bijeenkomst is uitgebreid stilgestaan bij zaken die nodig zijn voor de wederopbouw van de regio. Ook zijn er zinvolle gesprekken gevoerd over de mogelijke samenwerking tussen Nederlandse en Turkse bedrijven en overheden en de wederopbouwinspanningen. Hierbij werd benadrukt welke de cruciale rol zij in het proces kunnen spelen.
Een belangrijk aspect van het gesprek ging over het vaststellen van een duidelijk pad naar internationale gecombineerde financiering en financiering voor de wederopbouw, waarbij de urgentie van financiële steun werd benadrukt.
Bovendien diende de bijeenkomst als platform om licht te werpen op het heersende politieke en economische landschap in Turkije, met bijzondere aandacht voor Hatay. In de nasleep van de verwoestende aardbevingen zorgde deze inzichtelijke discussie voor een holistisch begrip van de uitdagingen en kansen, waardoor de weg werd vrijgemaakt voor weloverwogen en strategische beslissingen in de wederopbouwinspanningen.
In de komende maanden werkt NLWorks aan het opzetten van een consortium van Nederlandse en Turkse bedrijven en lokale overheden rond de bouw van een modulaire wijk in Hatay.

Local society, the economy, and the system of local government have been devastated and disrupted.
On October 26 (2023), in cooperation with VNO-NCW MKB-Nederland, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Dutch embassy in Ankara, and RVO, NLWorks organized an information meeting for Dutch companies to offer them insight into the aid needed in the affected area of Hatay.
At the heart of the meeting lay a comprehensive exploration of Hatay’s reconstruction needs following the recent devastations in the region.
The primary objectives revolved around elucidating the essential needs for rebuilding Hatay, delving into intricate details about the area’s reconstruction needs. Additionally, the gathering aimed to foster meaningful discussions on the potential collaboration between Dutch and Turkish businesses and governments and the reconstruction efforts, highlighting the pivotal role they could play in the process.
An important facet of the discourse centered on establishing a clear pathway towards international blended finance and funding for the reconstruction, emphasizing the urgency of financial support.
Moreover, the meeting served as a platform to shed light on the prevailing political and economic landscape in Türkiye, with a particular focus on Hatay. In the wake of the devastating earthquakes, this insightful discussion provided a holistic understanding of the challenges and opportunities, paving the way for informed and strategic decisions in the reconstruction endeavors.
In the coming months, NLWorks will work on establishing a consortium of Dutch and Turkish businesses and local governments around the construction of a modular neighborhood in Hatay.
